13 moons is a creative journey to celebrate the menstrual cycle and to empower women by breaking down menstrual stigma, creating a safe space where their voices can be heard and providing access to the information they need about their own bodies.
This project has been delivered in partnership with Irise International, in collaboration with Canaan Project and supported by Plan International UK.
The worksheets have been created by artist Jenny Leonard in collaboration with participants.
We have worked with Year 7 girls in a school in East London for 8 weeks. We used applied theatre tools to dismantle stigma and create resources for menstrual education, thanks to a generous grant awarded by the Let’s talk. Period Project Grant Scheme which is funded by DCMS through the Tampon Tax Fund and delivered in partnership with BrookCharity and Plan International UK.
Creative team: Debora Minà with the support of Nina Feldman and Vanessa Ravira.
“In the start I thought it was gross but now I feel comfortable.”
“I felt embarrassed at the beginning but now I think it is really good and I wish I thought this at the start, so I got [more] use out of this opportunity.”
“I hope other girls in the future will feel the same way I do – proud!”
Participants' feedback.
